GPS Shoes Let Mommy Know Where You Are
"Good news for worried parents. These GTX GPS Xplorer Smart Shoes will let you keep track of your kids no matter where you are. Here's how it works.
Define a "safe" area around your house or school that it's safe for your kids to wander around. When the GPS signal goes outside of the area, an SMS will be sent to your phone alerting you of the situation. Then you're free to call your wife, the police, or Chloe from 24."
Basically, the app is meant to work in conjunction with the wearable device (that being the shoes) to detect the location of the person wearing these shoes. It is unclear how one would go about creating this "safe zone" and what the difficulty level is of doing so.
The communication is one-way. The notification is only sent out if the shoes leave a certain area that has been previously defined by, in most cases, the parent. There is no way to ping the shoes to see where that might be at the moment- which would actually be quite an interesting feature.
I can see the user population extending past parents and children to Alzheimer patients, and maybe even paranoid ex-girlfriends. It would be funny to toss the shoes into a truck bound for a long journey across the U.S. while you sit at home in your living room and listen to the insane txt message notifications to come in. (That's the first thing I would want to do if my mom gave me these shoes!)
A couple of issues:
- how long does the GPS stay charged?
- can you wear these shoes in the rain?
- what is the ease of use/ initial setup?
