Hey dudes. My name is Christin and I'm a second year here at ITP. Here's my bloggy blog: http://xinroman.com/itpblog and here's my website: http://xinroman.com. I've got a few project ideas for this class already and would love to talk to people about them, if you're interested in talking....
1. I'll be setting up some mobile show- and friend-finding features for my website We Rock NYC (still somewhat under construction, but I can give you the super-secret tour if you like!).
2. I want to do a pic-phone geotagging project where people earn points by photographing and plotting the locations of any of the 3000+ surveillance cameras around Manhattan. This may or may not become my thesis project
3. I really want some sort of application that will just dump all of my text messages off of my phone and onto some server. I don't know, maybe this is more "mobile apps" territory. I just really hate deleting text messages.
4. I like the idea of using your phone and your friends for trivia, either by querying your friends for the answer to some question (I've tried to use dodgeball for this before, to varying degrees of success) or to get questions sent to your phone either to help you pass the time alone or to use for a bar game (I love bars that kave trivial pursuit cards at their customers' disposal).
5. I went to the international spy museum in DC last week and it left me feeling really inspired. A lot of the old spy gadgets they had on display were various kinds of phones. Very hi-tech at the time, but it amazes me that we're now all walking around with our own little spy cameras. I think it would be cool to make some sort of spy-themed game with this idea in mind.
6. I also had an idea for Shawn's redial class that ended up being too hard to work out technically, but could possibly work using text messaging instead of voice. The idea was that the person on one end of a phone call could yell key words or phrases into the phone, but that the person on the other line would hear a pre-recorded word or phrase that was totally different. So you could say something like "Are you out of your fucking mind?!" and they would hear "Maybe we should talk more about this...." Kind of like that Ze Frank thing about the interoffice emails.
7. I'm almost done, I swear! I'd like to try to think up some proposal for the tenement museum DARP, due sometime in late february. It's supposed to be a web based project, but, given the ubiquity of mobile phones and the fact that their tours take place out on the streets of the LES, I'm sure it would be plausible (and interesting!) to incorporate some phone stuff here as well.
8. I also just submitted a project idea to the mtvU digital incubator. I won't know for awhile if we are chosen yet, so we are still in initial ideas/development phases. The idea is to create a real world friendster/dodegball mashup- a persistent game that incentivizes social interactions among college students. If this goes through I'm sure I'll be looking for some feedback from this class.
That's it! Come talk to me!
